The Loughcrew Autumn Equinox Festival 2015 kicks off on Saturday 19th of September and Witch’s Hill are delighted to be playing a part this year. The festival takes place at Loughcrew Cairns and Oldcastle for two days of dawn ceremonies. This also includes talks, workshops, yoga, walks, poetry, and more.
The Farewell to the light, Autumn Equinox festival is where the sunrise shining into the inner chamber of the Loughcrew Cairns is celebrated and there are some special treats in store. Here in Witch’s Hill we have a special Equinox Kitchen opening where we will be offering a €5.00 all day alternative breakfast menu packed full of delicious treats. After you climb Loughcrew Hill, you can come down to Oldcastle town and enjoy a scrumptous breakfast. Our kitchen will be open from 7.30am until 4pm, serving the most delicious comfort food in our warm and welcoming environment. Check out our delicious menu in our gallery images at the end of this post.
The Autumn Equinox, Farewell to the Light Ceremony is held at Loughcrew Cairns which are 5,500 years old. There will be dawn ceremonies, spiritual seminars, and workshops available to all those who wish to attend. It is your chance to relive the ancient ways of saying farewell to the light as the darkness of Winter returns to our island.
The powerful dawn ceremonies use the ways of old to call forth for blessings over the land from all four corners. If sunrise is good, you can watch it pass over the Equinox Store within Cairn T – the oldest surviving stone building in Europe, dating back to 3,500 BC.
All events are free and donations are accepted for festival and artist expenses. Dawn Ceremonies start from 6am with events to follow. The full details can also be found in our image gallery below.
